Tried & loved: La Roche-Posay: Effaclar DUO [+]

La Roche-Posay is a well known skincare brand all over the world. You can buy it in almost every pharmacy, and since a lot of people get their skincare at a pharmacy over here, it is quite popular.

It has a gel like consistency.

A few months ago I suffered from little bumps all over my forehead. Before I went to the dermatologist I went to my local pharmacy and they recommended the Effaclar DUO [+] by La Roche-Posay. I used this the week before my appointment with the dermatologist and it helped tremendously with the whiteheads (little skincolored surface bumps). It didn't get rid of my stubborn milia in that short period of time, for that I had to use alpha hydroxy acid.

The main working innovative ingredient in this is LHA, an ester of salicylic acid, which can be found on the ingredient list as capryloyl salicylic acid. AHA and LHA both are skin exfoliants because they can separate the 'glue' that holds the upper skin layer together. The difference between AHA and LHA is that LHA is lipid soluble and AHA is water soluble. LHA therefore has the power to penetrate deeper into the skin than AHA, and that's why it has the ability to treat blackheads, whiteheads and acne more effectively.

AHA works more on the surface of your skin - which I needed to dissolve my milia - but LHA should work better on getting rid of whiteheads than AHA. In my opinion, they both work equally good to tackle the last problem but when I'm using AHA, I use a high concentration so I guess I'm comparing apples and oranges here ;).

While AHA can cause irritation to the skin, LHA can actually reduce redness which is a huge plus is you suffer from acne.

Effaclar DUO [+] has been a staple in my skincare routine. I use this mostly at night because it can increase the risk of sunburn (always use a SPF when you use products with AHA/LHA/... in it) and because it has dimethicone (a silicone) in it. I wouldn't recommend applying make up on top of it since your make up will form little balls (because of the silicone) of product with dead skin cells (because of LHA). Just don't try putting foundation on this, you will have a awful make up day ^^.

It has a very nice scent to it because of the perfume in it. Luckily it doesn't irritate my skin.

Hope you enjoyed this post.

Talk to you soon,
